Let \(f(x) = x^2\), and consider \(a = 0\), \(b = 1\), \(c = 2\). Compute the three slopes $$ s_1 = \frac{f(b) - f(a)}{b - a}, \quad s_2 = \frac{f(c) - f(a)}{c - a}, \quad s_3 = \frac{f(c) - f(b)}{c - b}, $$ and check that \(s_1 \le s_2 \le s_3\) (Proposition P1.3 of the chapter).
